A librarian in search of a role

“Changing roles” seems to be coming up here and there at our meeting. The Hospital Library Subcommittee of the New England Region’s RAC met on Saturday afternoon. We discussed how we have to change the way we think about our libraries, our services and ourselves in order to stay alive. The next day, I attended a terrific CE session, “Knowledge Transfer: Moving from Best Evidence to Best Practice.” Our instructor/guide, Ellen Detlefsen, told us of plans at Johns Hopkins to close the library facility (the Welch library) and embed the librarians in the hospital & medical school. (hope I’ve got that right!). I’ll have more on the KT class in a different post, but that session got my attention!
