A group of Senate Democrats, including Elizabeth Warren (MA) and Bernie Sanders (VT) introduced a new bill designed to provide “predictable, robust funding” for the NIH and FDA. The bill, known as the National Biomedical Research Act, would create a fund which would provide $5 million per year in new funding for both agencies. This funding could go toward projects like Vice-President Biden’s National Cancer Moonshot and the Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program. According to the sponsors, the bill would ensure that this new fund would supplement the NIH’s base budget.

This bill is just one of several other bills advanced by Democrats on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. This announcement provides more information about these bills.
