Here are a few items from Washington that may be of interest:

  • President Obama Selects Nominee for Librarian of Congress – On February 24th, President Obama nominated Dr. Carla Hayden for the position of Librarian of Congress. You can learn more about Dr. Hayden and her accomplishments by watching this video that provides a background of her work.
  • Protect Library Funding – ALA is urging all librarians to lobby their members of Congress and ask them to protect federal funding for programs such as the  Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). See the information in the link for suggestions about how to make your voice heard.
  • FASTR Legislation Moves Forward – The Senate could soon take action on this bill, which will strengthen biomedical research on several fronts.
  • MLA, AAHSL and Others Urge Congress to Support Funding – Over 660 organizations have written to Congressional appropriation committees to urge them to support funding at the highest level possible.
