The NN/LM New England Region is sponsoring a program on issues related to health equity and health information access on March 29 at the Shrewsbury, MA campus of UMass Medical School. Per their website, “There is much to learn in the area where equity and access issues intersect with health and technology. We’ll hear from three speakers plus reactions and comments from people in our region whose information interventions have been directed at our most vulnerable or underserved populations.”

Speakers for the day will be:

  • Janine Anzalota, Program Director at the Boston Public Health Commission
  • Jessamyn West, author, community technology librarian and community manager of the massive group blog
  • Gary L. Kreps, University Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA

The program is free, but seating is limited and registration IS required. For more information and to register, visit the NER’s website.

The upcoming Healthcare Workforce Community of Interest web session focuses on our own profession and the information realm of healthcare. A panel of three librarians who, by chance or design, have left the traditional library and moved into positions that are more closely aligned with the Information Technology departments of their institutions. We hope for an interesting discussion on the interactions between IT and library units, professional transitions, and the librarian’s dynamic position in the workforce.

  • Rebecca Armitage, Emergency Department Informatics Systems Specialist for the Emergency Medicine for Lifespan in Rhode Island
  • David Rothman, IT Associate for the Department of Emergency Medicine, at SUNY Upstate
  • Dawn Thistle, Executive Director of Information Technology & Media Services at Assumption College, Worcester

We hope you’ll join us next Tuesday, February 28th at 1:00pm.
